Mamadou Lamine Maïga - Akara

Download:
FLAC:   Side A   Side B

Side A
01. Lawbe-Gua
02. Akara
03. Zikrou-Lah

Side B
04. Djinky
05. Souboba
06. Mbagnick

This tape is pretty damn energetic.  They're almost throwing too many sounds at you at once.  It's a fun listen.  This dude is from Senegal and he's got a killer voice.

Sorry for the month-long absence of tapes (I hope my uploading spree in April made up for it).  I moved recently and I'm all settled in now and ready to spend more time getting tapes up here.

Super Rail Band Du Buffet Hotel De La Gare - Djougouya Magni

Download:
FLAC:   Side A   Side B

Side A
01. Djougouya Magni
02. Derimagni
03. Sanankoro Moriba
04. Dagna
05. N'donikegniba

Side B
06. Folikelaou
07. Soumba
08. M'barin
09. Dyanpamagni

If you're never listened to this band before, you probably shouldn't make this release the first one you hear.  I highly recommend getting their first album (reissued by Mississippi Records on vinyl and it's only $10) from 1970. This tape I'm posting is from 1990 and has a different lineup which is not bad by any means but you really must hear their music before Salif Keita spawned his solo career and left the group.  This is a great tape and I'm not trying to downplay it.  Just listen to their old stuff first.

Djeneba Seck - Kankeletigui

Download:

Side A
01. Kankeletigui
02. Baro
03. Mirimagni

Side B
01. Ladilikan
02. Djougouya
03. Kewaledjougou

Djeneba Seck is amazing.  Here is a little bio page if you're curious.  The vocals are reminiscent of Nahawa Doumbia at some points.  Really, the only thing I can find to complain about is the short duration of the tape (runs just under 30 minutes, which is why the FLAC fits in one file this time).  Check it out.

In 1996, the Nigerian men's football (soccer) team overcame all odds and came out with the gold medal at the Atlanta Summer Olympics.  This guy was so psyched that he recorded an album for them.  Very energetic, long jams mostly comprised of drums and vocals.  It's about 30 minutes per side so I had to split Side A into 2 parts for the FLAC (scans are in part 2).  Thanks to imago for pointing out what the full/real name of the artist of the tape is.

Lots more African stuff on the way in the coming weeks.  And I mean lots.
